How long have you worked at PCS?
28 years service now! Tim Holt and I started PCS from nothing at the start of a recession and are really proud of what we are still achieving.
What do you do day to day at work?
See how we can do things better. It is an evolution.
Which famous person do you most look like?
I am regularly reminded of the time I superglued myself to a machine that I was in the process of re-engineering, so an ideal candidate would maybe be Frank Spencer?
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Good friends when this ^%# pandemic is all over.
What would be the soundtrack to your life?
Rumours.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Making sure we remain current and relevant to which hopefully our clients will concur.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Seeing certain employees starting at a junior position in the company and developing to senior positions.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Dog walking, walking, cooking and eating.
What would be your dream job?
Artisan bread baker. Thank you Aiden Monks for your inspirational produce at Altrincham and Kendal (complimentary Marmite and cheese sourdough please!).
What would you most like to print?
New work. Our business is built around building long-lasting customer relationships. It always gives a real buzz though to see new designs going through the presses.
What is your greatest fear?
When I was young, I spent 18 months out of work. My driver even now is to ensure that this is never repeated.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Laugh and drink with special friends.
Which living person do you most admire, and why?
Elon Musk in equal measure of love and hate. What a complete freak of business excellence and ‘can do’ attitude, but I hate how he never fails to let himself down, usually on Twitter.
What is your favourite book?
The Time Machine by HG Wells – a must read. Written 125 years ago it is an insightful lesson for us all in what happens when people are de-skilled with no purpose in life.
What is your favourite smell?
Roast chicken with garlic, as I am reminded on Monday mornings as I circulate.
What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
Sorry, don’t do.
What is your favourite word?
Favourite word at work is Orderbook and at home the word that brings most joy is Walkies!
Cat or dog?
Dog. Sorry cat lovers (even though we do welcome you all as customers!).
What’s your worst fashion disaster? Be honest!
Striped red and white trousers from Top Man, on a camping holiday in France in 1983. Kept the locals entertained!
What was your childhood obsession?
Blackjacks and Fruit Salads from the Penny Tray (now showing my age).
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
To enjoy life. It’s as simple as that!
What is your greatest luxury in life?
Good cheese.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
To the past to be able to say to certain people that in the grand scheme, nothing really matters.
What is the strangest job you’ve ever done?
Counting cigarette coupons into bundles of 50. I lasted 1 day and didn’t go back.
What is your greatest ambition?
To make a major difference to at least one persons’ life.
Where would you like to be right now?
Walking long stretches of beach on warm sand.
What keeps you awake at night?
Nothing. As soon as my head hits the pillow, I am out for the count.
How do you relax?
An unconditional welcome home from the dog immediately puts me in the right place.
Which superpower would you like to have?
Foresight.
