Four employees from Macclesfield-based, Plastic Card Services (PCS) are donning their boots and waterproofs for a 24 hour charity walk. Adam Unsworth, Rob Nicholls, Chris Dunn and Shaun Hinchy have all signed up for the Trekfest event in July, which will see them cover 54 miles across the Peak District in just one 24 hour period.

The PCS team has already begun preparations for the endurance challenge by swapping their usual business attire in the office for clothing more commonly found on the peaks of Derbyshire. Adam Unsworth, sales director at PCS, explains: “Walking solidly for 24 hours will be a real test of stamina, so to get ready for the challenge ahead, we’re doing all we can to get ourselves physically and mentally prepared.

“We’re not experienced walkers, so as well as running and completing long walks at the weekend, we’re also using our time in the office to wear in our boots. We thought we’d savour every opportunity to get used to our new footwear before the big day arrives, but we’re getting a few strange looks from the rest of the company – it definitely gives a new meaning to the phrase ‘suited and booted’!”

Through sponsorship, the team hopes to raise £1,200 which will be split between four of its chosen charities: Barnardo’s, Edale Mountain Rescue, East Cheshire Hospice and Sands (stillbirth and neonatal death charity). As part of its corporate social responsibility strategy, which focuses on supporting organisations and charities within the North West in particular, PCS will also be contributing to the team’s personal fundraising.

The Trekfest walk is taking place on 6-7 July in the Peak District. To follow the PCS team’s progress in advance of the event or to make a donation, visit www.justgiving.com/teams/pcs .
